Studio Notes: September 18th, 2021
In this episode, I'm in my home office working away on my computer. I briefly discuss self- care, the professional side of being a working artist, especially some of the work that goes into posting one of the works for sale on my website, specifically “2014_21”, which you can view here.

I'm Brandon Woods, and this is studio notes for September 18th, 2021. I'm at home today working on my computer and thinking about this kind of weird dichotomy and that I still have yet to really be able to resolve between business and production, between working in my studio and the professional practices that I have to do to go along with that. Honestly, this is one of those professional practices type things where I'm trying to keep all of you tuned in a little bit more, more up to date on the kind of day-to-day things that are happening in my studio or in work life, I guess. And just trying to show you the...working life of me as an artist. Which maybe that sounded a little bit redundant. I don't know. Whenever I'm talking on here, I kind of have a little bit of trouble being able to know what I'm going to say next. And so all of this is really just off the cuff. And who knows where, where we're headed? I'm along for the ride with all of you.
But, yeah, yesterday I didn't I didn't go to my studio, didn't do a studio notes. I really didn't do very much at all in the way of working in my studio or anything like that, because I needed to take a day off of everything. I had terrible, terrible sleep the night before. And it didn't help that on Thursday that I had listened to a podcast where they were actually discussing the problem of not getting enough sleep and how detrimental that can be to you. So I maybe I was kind of stressed out about not getting enough sleep, and that caused me to not get enough sleep. And then I decided to take a day and just just watch Beauty and the Beast and take two or three "naps". Yeah, does it count as a nap if you stay in bed and then go back to sleep? Yeah, I'm feeling better today. Definitely. I got more sleep last night, went for a run this morning.
And and I've been working on more professional practices stuff today. So I posted my studio notes from Thursday and. I had to battle with, with Premiere Pro for this one part of the video where I had to do like a voiceover recording because, I had said, the wrong date for one of my pieces, and that would have driven me crazy. And. Today I posted that, built a blog page on my website so that the links that I have to that video don't go to YouTube, they go to my website instead, and hopefully that'll help to drive more people to my website.
That was one of the, one of the things I got from Perry dugard-Owens' talk on Monday night, and now I am going to try to get together that image that I talked about in that video of "2014_21", the brown impasto piece...My computer went into screensaver mode, so now the color is changing on me, as opposed to the color changing on me on "Autumnal II" on Wednesday's post. But see, I'm going to I'm I'm going to try to put that image together and try to get a whole page on my website built for that so that I can link that blog page and post on my Web site to that work so that if any of you see it and I think that it would just be perfect in your homes if it if it speaks to you and and you want to buy it, you have easy ability to do so.
I also added a part on my "workshop" page, which is my portfolio and my shop kind of combined into one. Right at the very top I added a little line that says that I offer design consultation. And so what that means is that if someone is looking at one of my pieces, especially my "Spatium" pieces, it might be especially hard to visualize. In in your home, because they don't fit the traditional kind of rectangular format that we're all so used to. Then you can send me a message and I can, if nothing else, like Photoshop in a picture of my work into your space and we can also, we can discuss what of my work might look best in there and other things like that.
So that's, that's, I guess, just sort of one more, like, professionally thing. And tomorrow is a big professional practices day. Tomorrow's the big all day long Maker City Summit, and I'm really looking forward to that. That'll will be, that will be a really great opportunity to just talk to more of Knoxville's great maker community and talk to more of the people that can teach me even better how to, how to keep doing this, how to do, do what I love.
And so I will end it there for today and I'll talk to you all very soon. Until then, do what you love and make good work. All right. This is Brandon Woods signing off.
